Between the Lines
IDENTITY
There was a case of mistaken identity at a government event on the weekend. The master of ceremonies kept referring to the diplomat present by the name of his superior. It happened throughout the event. The worrying thing is that those who knew failed to inform him.
NOT IN
The people of the district who suffered for more than five months without access to their fishing grounds are still waiting for the compensation money. Some are furious about having to drive to the nearest ATM to keep checking if the money is in.
$2 MILLION
More people are requiring treatment overseas, and the government has had to beef up the money for overseas medical treatment. There is no indication where the $2 million is coming from. It also shows that fewer services could be on offer locally. Another question people are asking if government should foot the bill for repeated overseas checks?
DENGUE
There were a few reported cases of dengue fever lately. The mosquito-borne disease is around, and it would help if the area were kept clean. Prevention is better than a cure. Eight lives have been lost because of the mosquitoes.
GRASS CUTTING
Do not be surprised if people find public areas overgrown. Grass-cutting companies are also feeling the pinch of fuel prices going up. According to one company, this means fewer trips to cut grass unless the government pays more. However, many are concerned that since they will now be paid through the district councils.
