Between the Lines
VEHICLE USE
Why is a member of parliament without a cabinet portfolio using a vehicle belonging to a state-owned enterprise? The MP has been spotted driving this vehicle belonging to the body dealing with roads and transport. Have policies changed?
UNDERTAKER
A government driver has taken on the added responsibilities of being the undertaker. He has personally pledged to send scribes and photographers to the mortuary if he sees them at the hospital. Hopefully, his line ministry is also paying him for his dual roles.
FUEL
A neighbouring government has allocated $4 million dollars to support bus operators and ensure there is no disruption to public transport services for the next four months, and also subsidising fuel costs of its power company. Meanwhile, in Samoa, we will just hoard the fuel.
DISCOUNT
The word is that in the coming months, domestic customers of the power company could end up paying more as the 20 per cent discount given in 2021 could be removed. Diesel is not that cheap anymore.
PETITION
The grapevines are suggesting that an election petition could be on the horizon for the latest by-election. The supposed petitioner who had been vocal before the count has also gone silent.
