Maualaivao Leu Fatu Banse, the president of the Volleyball Samoa Federation passed away on Christmas Eve.

The federation expressed their heartfelt sympathy towards his family and was grateful for the service while he was at the helm.

"You are in our thoughts and prayers and you will never be forgotten in our hearts Maualaivao. Fly high our Maker is waiting for you. We love and miss you Maualavao because of all your hard work and efforts for the Volleyball sport in Samoa," said the federation.

Social media was flooded with posts from former and current players, coaches, clubs and everyone who had the chance to work with Maualaivao. He is remembered as a remarkable leader and a down-to-earth person.  

"Our hearts are heavy as we bid farewell to a remarkable leader and President of our Volleyball Samoa Federation Incorporated. We express our deepest condolences. Our hearts are with you and your dearest family at this time. Gone but never forgotten. Love from your Angels aiga," a message from the Angels Volleyball Club.

"Rest in peace, Maualaivao Leu Fatu, President of the Samoa Volleyball Federation. It is truly shocking to hear that God has called you to eternal rest. You will be profoundly missed. Volleyball was not just a sport for you, it was your passion, and you inspired countless players along the way, myself included," said Pauli Pula Sona Nei.

"I will hold dear the many wonderful, challenging and humorous memories we shared throughout our volleyball journey - the National Volleyball leagues, the trips with the National men's team, and especially our festive voli faikupe gatherings every Christmas and New Year's.

"As it is beautifully stated in 2 Timothy 4:11 "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept my faith." Though you may no longer be with us, your legacy will surely carry on. My heartfelt condolences go out to the Samoa Volleyball Federation, and especially to the family and friends of Maualaivao Leu Fatu. May you find a cherished place in eternal life. More people are sharing their fondest memories with Maualaivao. He has been a big part of a majority of volleyball players in Samoa. Players who played under his leadership, and those who have left the sport still remember him as someone who is really passionate about volleyball.
