Silver Ferns captain Ameliaranne Ekenasio enjoyed her family vacation in Samoa and believes she will be back for an extended stay.

She is married to Damien Ekanasio who hails from Mulifanua. This is also her connection to Samoa.

The family of four returned home on Friday evening.

"This trip was more of a family holiday. We've been to a lot of places and it's been beautiful. I actually had no idea what to expect but I loved it. There's a lot of colours around," she said.

"We went to Piula Cave Pool, that was beautiful. We spent the whole day there yesterday. We went to Lalomanu Beach as well. I wanted to go to the To Sua trench but we had little time to squeeze everything in.

"Overall, it has been beautiful. It's been a busy year as always for netball which is kind of why we are here and have heaps of time away."

"Our season just ended, so we wanted to come away and sort of have our family time. We're just coming into our international season. It's going to be a busy year and hopefully a successful one for us."

Mr Ekenasio has been away from Samoa for over a decade. He is blown away by the changes he saw in his village and Samoa.

"I haven't been back for about 14 or 15 years, so it's good to come back home and show her where I'm from. It was great to see the aunties, uncles, and everyone," he said.

"Also, some of our family have passed on and we missed their funeral due to Covid-19. We only came for six days but it would be nice to come for a bit longer. It's a waste to pay for expensive airfare and spend little time."

The couple wished they had more time to explore the island instead of rushing from one place to another. However, the Ekenasio family is very happy about their short family trip to Samoa. They look forward to coming again and spending more time in Samoa.
