Discus thrower Alex Rose has secured his spot in the finals at the Olympic Games in Paris. He is one step away claiming Samoas' first medal in France.

In an interview with the newspaper on Tuesday morning, he expressed how grateful he is to represent Samoa and for him to see his dreams become a reality.

Rose threw a distance of 62.88 metres to make the cut for a historic final. Although he was placed 12th, he is confident that his throw will be better in the finals.

"It feels incredible to represent Samoa in the Olympic final. It has been my dream for years and years to qualify for this final, and I'm seeing my dreams become a reality," said Rose.

"It is an absolute honour to represent Samoa on the biggest stage, and I will leave everything at the track on Wednesday.

"The qualifying round was tense. It's always tough when you only have three attempts. I didn't have a great day, but luckily it was good enough to advance. I feel very prepared mentally and physically to do my best in the final."

The 32-year-old is among a small list of Pacific island Olympians to claim glory in athletics.  He is currently holding the record for the Oceania, he is three times Oceania champion, and he is also in the top eight for the Commonwealth Games.
