Laumua o Tumua defends Vaiala title

Laumua o Tumua of Afega successfully defended their title at the Taula FedPac Vaiala Ulalei International 7s after beating home team Vaiala Ulalei 37 - 12.

Laumua o Tumua won the title, trophy and $15,000 while Vaiala Ulalei won $10,000. Laulii received $8,000 for being third.

Captain Johnny Samuelu expressed his gratitude to God for the strength, he also acknowledged all their supporters who showed up to witness their final game as well as everyone cheering from home.


"We did it again. It is quite a game as it is also part of Vaiala Ulalei's 100-year celebration. It's been about nine years since five of our boys from Afega played for Vaiala. We knew how they play and we used that to our advantage," he said.

"We came prepared for this tournament. We knew that it was a tough tournament but we did it. We mainly prepared in terms of our fitness. Look forward to the King's tournament."

A member of the Vaiala Ulalei Old Boys, Leaana Fanualelei Ronnie Posini expressed pride and was grateful for a successful event. 

"We thank God that everything went well. I want to thank the companies behind the events hosted by Vaiala Ulalei as you have seen its been successful. Thank you to Taula, Federal Pacific, BBE and everyone who was behind it," he said.


"The greatest achievement of this tournament is that with every tournament such as this, the standard of rugby is moving up. 24 teams competed in this tournament and they all performed to the best of their abilities. It was great to see every player perform well."

The player of the match went to Murphy Paulo of Laumua o Tumua. The tournament attracted the general public, the Samoa Weightlifting team were also seen in the crowd.
