The Ministry of Women Community and Social Development marked Father's Day at the Salamasina Hall on Tuesday with the Police Brass Band and village representatives leading the celebration.

The C.E.O. of the Ministry Dr. Mema Motusaga welcomed all fathers, mothers and men and women who attended the event with Rev. Dr. Eteuati Sili Leuo Tuioti giving his blessings for the occasion.

The event celebrated fathers who play active roles as key figures in Samoan society institutions such as the family, community and the Government. A highlight was the focus on the responsibilities of a father to look after his family providing the necessities of life for his wife and children.

The event celebrated the significance of their contribution in all areas of society, especially their roles as decision makers in villages and families.

The Ministry-organised event heard that the roles of a father is vital for the development of the community and social development. A lot of emphasis was given to the importance of the community working together with the Government and its partners.

The Associate Minister of Women Community and Social Development, Seuamuli Fasi Toma, expressed his appreciation to all village representatives and fathers present while highlighting the important roles they play in all levels of society in their families, villages, churches and the Government.

Father's Day this year is scheduled for Sunday 14 August with the public holiday to follow on Monday. All fathers will be celebrated this weekend with the celebrations culminating with church services on Sunday.
