A  19-year-old man from Solosolo is believed to have died after he was allegedly electrocuted as he attempted to clear a fallen power line.

Police Commissioner, Auapaau Logoitino Filipo confirmed that the teenager had passed away and they were investigating the death,

"I can confirm that a 19-year-old male of Solosolo died last night. Electrocution is suspected as the cause death from coming in contact with an electric wire. Our investigation continues," he said.

Videos and photos that were speculated on social media on Friday night showed the deceased lying on the side of the road with the electric wire on him as onlookers and bystanders stood and watched.

The Samoa Fire Emergency and Services Authority and Police were present at the scene and it is believed that the family were unable to go near him for safety reasons. It is believed that the strong winds had caused the electric wire to fall. The wait was for the Electric Power Corporation  to turn off the power.

The deceased has been identified as Iosefa Viliamu Sealiinuu Siaosi well known by family members and friends as Jamu. Social media has been flooded by condolences and sympathy messages for the family since the incident occurred.

Family members of the deceased have asked the public who have posted videos and photos of the deceased on social media to take it down, as they don't want to remember him as such.
