Racing club's pre-Christmas meeting
The Samoa Racing Club held its pre-Christmas race meeting last Saturday bringing together its members, the business community as well as family and friends.
The Prime Minister, Fiame Naomi Mata’afa was present as well as some of her Cabinet Ministers and Chief Executive Officers from different Government ministries.
It was a fun day event for families who watched and bet on the six race of the day with the main race won by the horse Vaelise owned by Tiufea Rudy Meredith.
Other winning horses of the other division were Tarzan, Tausala o Amoa and Lupe ole Mauga
President of the club, Tuilaepa Peter Rasch thanked the Prime Minister and her Cabinet for their support to again revive horse racing in Samoa which would benefit the tourism industry.
Tuilaepa said a portion of any profits will be donated to the Home of the Elderly at Mapuifagalele.
The club plans on further development of their facilities and have plans for a bigger event to commemorate Samoa’s 60th Independence day next year.
The President also thanked their major sponsors Vailima and other companies that supported the sport and named H.J.Keil Co Ltd, SOS, Samoa Commercial Bank, SIFA, Samoa Stationery and Books, Reef Rentals and Loibl Car Parts.
The Samoa Racing Club has been undergoing renovation of their facility at Tuanaimato with a new club house extension.
In November last year the club donated $2000 tala to the Mapuifagalele which coincided with Thanksgiving Day.
At that donation, the President said they hope to restart their relationship with the Home of the Elderly.
He said before their relationship got cut off they were the club that used to donate to the elderly, not only as a club but individually or through their places of employment.
The Samoa Race Club started off at the Apia Park complex later moved to Tuanaimato to make way for rugby and other sports at the national park.
Not long after the club moved to their new location they had to stop again due to the Government's installation of solar panels.
The club is a non-profit organisation and is made up of a group of individuals who share a love for horses and the sport of horse racing.
