Police investigates MEC break-in
The search is on for a man who broke into the Ministry of Education and Culture and then at a private morgue on Sunday morning.
The police are currently investigating the incident and looking for the suspect who was caught on surveillance cameras.
A reliable source at the ministry told Samoa Observer that the thief broke into the Communication office and took phones, a camera and a ukulele.
After that, he broke into one of the staff member's vehicles and stole some cash and clothes.
The Operations Division staff members were camping at the main office preparing for the teachers' conference this week.
A source at the Ministry of Police confirmed that a complaint has been lodged by staff members of the MEC and also the Manager of Ligaliga Mortuary.
This thief also broke into the Ligaliga mortuary and stole cash and phones belonging to workers at the morgue.
That was where this thief left the camera and ukulele he stole from MEC when he was seen by the manager of the Ligaliga morgue trying to break one of the cupboards.
The suspect is believed to be from Leone and is still on the run by police.
The police advise members of the public to be on the alert at any time to avoid such incidents from desperate thieves who are stealing and breaking into not only offices but also homes.
It was just last Thursday that a man was seen stealing underwear from a laundromat in Moto'otua but the incident was not reported to police but the management of Lynn did put up a public notice on social media alerting the public to be aware of such people.
There have also been concerns raised by members of the public about theft incidents in their neighbourhood. A week ago, a teenager was taken for question regarding break-ins in the Vailele area. He was allegedly involved in a house break-in and later stole a phone when he was visiting a relative.
