The Samoa Police, Prisons and Correction Services (SPPCS) stated on Sunday in response to a Facebook post questioning why a man had not been arrested and alleging police inaction in a case involving a seven-year-old child.
The post, published on 23 April, called on Acting Police Commissioner Leiataua Samuelu Afamasaga, questioning why he had not been arrested and raising concerns over police inaction in the matter involving the child.
Police said that after checking all police outposts, there is no complaint or report against the man for harming a seven-year-old child.
“Official records confirm that the person referenced in the post has been charged with theft and is currently subject to an open investigation regarding the theft of an animal,” the police statement said.
SPPCS said the allegation shared online is “entirely unfounded and unsupported” by any official complaint or record.
Police also criticised misleading and unverified reporting. They said publishing claims without confirmation can reduce public trust, undermine the service’s integrity, and disrupt community peace.
“We reaffirm our commitment to transparency, accountability, and the protection of all members of the public, especially our children. SPPCS encourages the community to report concerns directly to police stations or through official channels, ensuring that matters are addressed responsibly and with due process,” stated the statement
