Japan and the Aleipata community celebrated the completion of major renovations at Aleipata College on 4 March, improving learning conditions for students and teachers.

The handover ceremony was attended by Suzuki Ryotaro, Ambassador of Japan to Samoa, alongside representatives from the Ministry of Education and Culture, the school committee, parents, teachers, and students.

The school received a grant of $353,001 in October last year under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP).

Renovations covered two school buildings with 16 classrooms, including new roofing and ceilings, blackboards, windows, electrical repairs, and other upgrades to make classrooms safer and more comfortable.

The improvements are expected to benefit about 320 students and 19 teachers. Japan remains committed to supporting education in Samoa, seeing it as vital to social and economic development, and will continue providing assistance through the GGP program.
