A teenager found with marijuana in her possession on a school property has told the police that the drugs belonged to her father. Police are now considering charges against the parent.

The student of Palalaua College was caught by a prefect attempting to sell drugs in school.

Police Commissioner Auapa'au Logoitino Filipo confirmed to Samoa Observer that investigations are ongoing and there is a possibility the police might charge the father of the girl.

"The police did go to the family of this school girl for further investigations and at the moment investigations are ongoing and there is a possibility the father of the girl might be charged," Auapa'au said in a telephone interview.

Auapa'au confirmed that the girl told police that the marijuana in her possession belonged to her father.

"It's very sad to see this kind of cases involving students in school and we will keep on doing our role to enforce the law as a lesson to these students and also the parents if they are allegedly involved," he said.

Speaking to the Samoa Observer recently, the Principal of Palalaua College Ropati Aukusitino said the matter was with the police.

He said the law is what they go to in difficult times like such and they (teachers) were still doing their job not only to teach the students academically but also to push them to become better students for the future.

Aukusitino did not want to elaborate more on the matter saying it's with the police but revealed it was a sad and shocking situation.

"We will leave it to the police for investigations and I can reveal that of course the police did go to the girl's family for investigations and I do not know the outcome," Aukusitino said in a telephone interview on the weekend.

The principal said in order to try and tackle this problem, teachers and parents should stand together to educate the children on how to live a successful life with strong family values as a wake-up call for them.

The alleged incident happened last Tuesday when one of the prefects allegedly found marijuana on this school girl and reported the matter to the principal and teachers.
