Joseph finds a new beginning with TVET
More than 200 students of Samoa graduated from the National University of Samoa Technical and Vocational Educational Training (TVET) courses at the NUS Gym on Wednesday.
It was a special day for 17-year-old Joseph Papali’i who came first in Computer Operating and now hopes to pursue a degree in information technology.
He is from Toamua, Sapapalii, Matautu Lefaga and Malaemalu.
He attended Toamua Primary School and went to Samoa College and this year he was enrolled in Certificate 4 in Computer Operating .
“First and foremost I thank almighty God, source of life, source of wisdom and source of strength for His unending and unconditional love and also his guidance upon all of us through this year, without his presence and guidance our academic and educational journey wouldn’t be possible," he said.
“The feelings of mixed emotions came to me now as I am graduating today because looking back at my journey I did not make it to foundation year so I tried very hard to be able to graduate and pay back the hard work of my parents."
Joseph said during his journey there were difficulties such as his family not having enough money to pay his school fees and money for bus fares.
He said the stress of assignments made him want to give up, but he thanked God for giving him the strength to continue.
Papali’i in his speech as the top TVET student said he was thankful to his parents and his families for their support that led him here.
“To parents and families, so grateful for all the encouragement, sacrifices, prayers and support for our educational journey. Your prayers are finally answered," he said.
“Reminders to all the students out there, to always trust God, trust His process and plans and believe in yourself you can do it.
“Wishing all the graduates the best in the future, this is not the end but the new beginning to your journey.”
