Maria's Healthcare Pharmacy has reopened its Taufusi branch, marking a new chapter in its over 20-year journey of serving the people of Samoa.

With a commitment to providing exceptional healthcare and a vastly expanded range of products, the reopening is a testament to the unwavering passion of its owner, Maria Westerlund-Hunter, and her dedicated team.

The pharmacy now offers an impressive selection of medication, hygienic products, cosmetics, accessories, and more. But what truly sets this establishment apart is its heartfelt mission to prioritise service above all else—a mission that has been steadfast despite significant challenges.

Reflecting on the trials faced, Mrs Hunter acknowledged the guiding hand of faith in their journey.

"We've always believed that the people of Samoa deserve the best," she said. Her drive stems from a deep spiritual foundation, the values imparted by her parents, and the unwavering support of her husband, children, and extended family.

Most importantly, she draws strength and inspiration from the people of Samoa. Recently, she has been practising as a pharmacist for the first time after a very long time at their Vaitele outlet.

She said she was reminded of the profound need for the services they provide.

"It reminded me again of why we do what we do," she shared, emphasising her dedication to meeting the healthcare needs of the community.

The reopening of the Taufusi branch is not merely a return to business—it symbolises a new beginning. The devastating fire that destroyed their original building in September last year could have spelt the end for many. Instead, it became a catalyst for growth and renewal.

Mrs Hunter expressed deep gratitude for her staff, whose unwavering belief in their mission has been instrumental in overcoming adversity. “Providing Samoa with the best service and providing them with medication and products is our priority,” she said.

The Taufusi branch introduces a groundbreaking advancement in pharmacy technology: Samoa’s first Multiple Tablet Counting System.

This computerised machine, sourced from New Zealand, significantly reduces dispensing errors, particularly during busy periods. "This reduces errors when the staff is under pressure," explained Mrs Hunter, showcasing their dedication to accuracy and efficiency.

The pharmacy also continues to offer free counselling services to patients purchasing medication—a practice they’ve maintained for years.

When asked about the costs involved in rebuilding and stocking the new branch, Mrs Hunter’s response was deeply moving: “The cost of this equals my appreciation and gratefulness to God. There’s no price tag to that. We care for the health of the people of Samoa, and we love doing what we do. We will just keep doing this for Samoa.”

Customers can anticipate not only the same exceptional service that has defined Maria's Healthcare Pharmacy for over two decades but also enhancements that reflect their continuous pursuit of excellence. “People can expect the same service that we have been providing over the last twenty years; but better,” Mrs Hunter assured.

As the pharmacy reopens its doors, it stands as a beacon of hope and perseverance. More than just a place to purchase medication, Maria's Healthcare Pharmacy is a trusted partner in health, deeply invested in the well-being of Samoa’s people.

With innovation, dedication, and faith as their guiding lights, Maria's Healthcare Pharmacy is ready to continue its mission—stronger and more committed than ever.
