Malie has spent more than $50,000 preparing for the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

They are hosting Ghana. Ghana is the second-most populous country in West Africa.

The village mayor of Malie, Tulasunui Umutaua Leapai said his village is hoping to keep Samoa beautiful. Flags of Ghana are already flying on both sides of the road in Malie.

However, Malie's preparations are far from over. Funds from their $1 million project were contributed to their goal of beautifying Malie for the upcoming CHOGM.

"I believe you have already seen our decorations, and you can see that we are not taking this lightly. We are trying to renovate everything in some areas which the village mayor's committee has suggested. This is all for the same purpose or goal to beautify our country," he said.

"Judging by our preparations, I believe it's more than $50,000tala. If you take a look at everything, there was a lot of money needed for this initiative to come to life. If you look at Malietoa Moli's grave, we've renovated it and installed new lights, painted it , renovated the gate among many other imporvements.

"We also have the flags, and painting of the rocks next to the roadside. Our work is ongoing, and the women's committee still hasn't finished their work. We also have a few boards that will be put up as well."

"Some of the funds that we have used is from our $1 million project. I believe we have requested $30,000 from this project excluding other funds that are coming from the village itself. Our hope is for our Samoa to stay beautiful like it has always been."

Tulasunui said it would be great for his village if they get a chance to host the Ghana delegation for a visit.
