The EPC worker who was electrocuted at Motootua is believed to be in a coma in the Intensive Care Unit at the Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital Motootua.

He was electrocuted on Tuesday afternoon while working on  a power pole, a few metres from the hospital. He is is married with three children.

According to a source at the hospital, he hasn't gained consciousness since he arrived at the hospital on Tuesday evening. No explanation was provided as to how an experienced linesman was electrocuted during work he had carried out several times before.

Queries by this newspaper have been sent to the Electric Power Cooperation General Manager, Faumui Iese Toimoana, but there has been no response from him.

Sources confirm that he is from the Distribution and Utilisation Division in Vaitele and is the leader of his team.

There are speculations that the lines may have been active while the work was being done which is believed to have been the cause of the accident.

An eyewitness from Malifa confirmed that the power was off for their area when the linesmen were conducting their operations, and it went back on right after the incident happened.

According to a close family member, his condition was not stable.

"His blood rate is okay, his heartbeat is normal but he is still unconscious as of yesterday," said the source.

His team and colleagues have been visiting the hospital to check on him. An official statement from EPC hasn't been made either.
