Samoa volleyball clubs return with bronze
Two volleyball clubs who represented Samoa in New Zealand for the Trans-Pacific Volleyball Championship in Takanini have brought back a bronze medal after a full week of competition.
I’a Sa volleyball club from Leusoalii and the Knights volleyball from Vaitele Fou played really well against their opponents in their first international competition away from home since COVID restrictions were lifted last year.
Both teams have been actively participating in local competitions held through 2022 and the results from this tournament will help with assessing their current sports ability.
For the Men’s division I’a Sa and the Knights both took bronze after an agreement was made for both teams to settle for a draw.
In the semifinals the Knights fell short with 1 set to 3 against the Orcas and I’a Sa barely losing by a one set difference from the Tanifa Razorback 2-3.
First place went to the South Auckland Orcas and the Tanifa Razorbacks securing second place in the championship.
In the women’s division the I’a Sa volleyball club came in bronze position with Manukau South and South Auckland Orcas taking first and second place.
Both volleyball clubs posted their thanks and support on their social media pages to friends who supported the teams.
Although not the result both teams wanted, they still successfully achieved a top three standing in the Trans-Pacific Volleyball Championship and will be able to improve from there.
The players have their eyes set on the upcoming Pacific Games and will use this experience to barge into the national team and hope to win a gold medal at the 2023 South Pacific Games in Solomon Islands.
