"If this is the decision of the new Government which is to open up the borders then I think its a good idea. When the borders open a lot of families overseas can come and visit us here in Samoa. I think it will also be beneficial for a lot of the local businesses too."

Epenesa Faapaia Esera,27, Tufutafoe

"There is a good side and also a bad side to the borders opening. The good thing about it is that families overseas can come over and we can likewise go over and visit them. The bad side of it is that our country may be affected by the new diseases that I've heard of on the news. I'm worried that our people might be affected by these new diseases, especially those children who have not done their vaccinations."

Fitutasi Salasa, 50, Tufutafoe

"I know that this is a very important decision for Samoa, especially for us who have vegetable farms. This is beneficial for us, especially to sell our farm produce and likewise for the farm produce that can be exported out of Samoa like the Koko Samoa and taro. It helps us who don't have jobs to earn something while selling our farm produce to feed our families."

Mikaele Toluluamai, 25, Papasataua

"It good to hear that they're opening up the borders, especially with the tourists that come to spend their money here. This means more money coming in to Samoa. Everything right now is blocked but with the borders opening in August we will have a lot of tourists coming in."

Liaga Liaga Seumanutafa, 30, Tufutafoe

"This is very nice, the tourists can come to buy our local products like souvenirs, this way we can earn money and our families who are overseas can return home and visit us. Also since its towards the end of the year, a lot of families can visit for family reunions."

Iele Afato, 68, Vailima

"I think that the opening of the borders is too soon, its too early for it. The Government should look at it again because before with COVID-19, there was period when we thought it was dying down, but all of a sudden it came back again and affected our country. But just like the Bible says we should pray to God for the right timing and for what we should do. There is some thing we should do first which is to be prepared."
