Iosefa Domingo Enari, 23, Vaiala

"I think the change will benefit Savai'i voters currently working here in Apia, there are a lot of Savai'i residents here in Upolu so it was a good move by the Government. Transportation is quite busy during elections as seen in the previous one. Wharfs and buses were packed with people going to Savai'i, so this decision by the Government will minimise hassle and make it a lot easier for the people during the by-elections."

Rosa Avapalu, 56, Tulaele & Lefagaoalii

"I went to Savai’i last April during the election to cast my vote. The 12pm ferry to Savai’i which I boarded was packed to capacity with people heading for their constituencies to cast their ballots in the 2021 national election; luckily the ferry did not capsize. I support and agree with the Government’s decision to bring back special voting booths to cater to voters in rural areas and Savai'i, which were not used during April's general election. It saves a lot of money and is easier on us."

Junior Tasi, 21, Vailima

"I agree 100 per cent with the new amendments to the Electoral Act. My father had to go to Savai'i in the last elections, he said that the ferry which he took was full and congested from the lower deck to the top deck with people going back to Savai'i for the national election. Even though I'm with the blue corner, I support this move by the new government."

Celine Schwalger, 23, Vaimea

"We have all witnessed what transpired in the election in April with so many of our people stranded on the wharf waiting for a ride to their villages, the boats were packed and it was also costly as you had to bring gifts also known as "oso" for your families awaiting your arrival. The previous Government made a mistake by stopping the usage of special booths, we all saw what happened during the election with people rushing over to Savai'i, boats were operating throughout the day and were packed with thousands of voters."

Ioane Pele, 50, Vaivase-Uta

"I welcome the decision to allow Savai'i voters to cast their ballots in special booths here in Upolu, I mean if you're a Savai'i voter working in Apia, you'll have to take your family with you when you go for the elections. Also you would need to bring something for your families in Savai'i and make sure you have enough money for your stay there and for when you return back to Upolu."

Soli Fano, 53, Satapuala

"I think the Government has learnt from the problems seen in the previous election last April, many people who went to Savai'i to vote were stranded at the wharf from morning till noon trying to find a way to get home. The amendments were made to address issues from the April general election, which will make it easier for voters to go through the election process, I think this is a positive change that will benefit our people not only here in Upolu but in Savai'i as well."
