The Manu Samoa 7s team have finished the Los Angeles 7s in fourth place and is ranked ninth overall at the closing of the 2021–2022 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

Their first match of the final day of the L.A. leg was against New Zealand and the Manu Samoa made a strong start to the semi-final match.

They were ahead of the All Blacks for most of the game until the very last minute when New Zealand scored a try and with a successful conversion took the lead 28-26 to come out victors.

Players Steve Onosa'i, Va'a Apelu Maliko, Uaina Sione and Paul Scanlan all scored tries for Samoa with three successful conversions from Melani Matavao.

The boys in blue then went on to play Australia in a bid to secure third placing. But the Australians proved too strong for Samoa, outclassing the boys in blue 21-7 to claim their first ever bronze medal in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

They were stunned by Samoa early on with Owen Niue cutting through the defence and diving over for a try. But as they did against Argentina, the Australia maintained their composure until Dietrich Roache and Corey Toole combined to put the Canberra flyer over.

Toole then broke through the line and whilst the ball was knocked out of his hands, Henry Paterson was there to pounce to put them up 14-7 up at the break.

With Samoa continuing to get penalised for ill discipline, the Australians marched up the field and it was Roache who dummied to put the game out of reach for the Samoans with a try of his own.

The HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in Los Angeles provided 45 matches over two-days of the tournament to mark the end of the 2021/22 season.

The New Zealand's All Blacks team reigned supreme in Los Angeles after they defeated the Flying Fijians 28-21 to take out the gold medal.

Australia took home the 2021-2022 season title with a bronze-medal placement in Los Angeles, marking the nation’s first ever top-three finish in the rugby sevens series.
