Netball Samoa celebrates national player selection
The Samoa Netball is celebrating a milestone as one of Samoa's national players won selection to be a part of the World Netball's "Voice of the Athlete" Working Group.
Chief Executive Officer for Netball Samoa, Rosemarie Lome, confirmed that Auteletoa Tanimo is Samoa's representative in the working group.
"We are proud to announce the selection of our National player – Auteletoa Tanimo in the World Netball 'Voice of the Athlete' Working Group," she said.
"Auteletoa Tanimo is from the villages of Pata Falelatai and Samalaeulu, Savaii. She made her debut for Netball Samoa in 2014 and competed in her first Netball World Cup in Sydney in 2015.
"She has also competed in the Pacific Nations Cup, Six Nations Cup, Oceania tri-series, and other Pacific Games. Most recently Tanimo competed in her second Netball World Cup in Liverpool 2019.
"Tanimo will be collaborating with nine other athletes from Australia, Botswana, England, Gibraltar, Jamaica, New Zealand, Singapore, Scotland, and Trinidad and Tobago to ensure the perspective of athletes can be considered in World Netball decisions that impact on athletes."
According to Mrs. Lome, Tanimo and the other athlete were selected from the five Netball regions that include Africa, America, Asia Pacific, Europe and Oceania of which Samoa is a part.
"World Netball is committed to ensuring that the Athlete is at the heart of our sport’s future direction and has taken steps to enable the Athlete voice to be heard and considered fully in planning strategies and activities – a formal influence at a world level on strategic netball issues which affect all athletes."
One of the primary tasks of the Working Group will be to scope out a detailed proposal for the establishment of an Athlete Committee/Consultative Body.
Netball Samoa will also have their finals for Age Division this Friday at the Multipurpose Gym, Tuanaimato starting from 10 am. There is also the ongoing PFL National Netball league on the weekends.
