Samoa gets to compete in Dallas Cup
Samoa's history makers, the national U-16 women's football team who have qualified for the FIFA World Cup are now preparing for the Dallas Cup in Texas, USA next month.
Coach Juan Chang Urrea confirmed their participation in the upcoming Dallas Cup.
"After the camp in California, which was a success. The team is now preparing to compete in the Dallas Cup. The Dallas Cup is the biggest youth football tournament in the world and it's from 13 to 20 April. The team will be competing against professional European teams and top academy teams from the USA," he said.
It is also their second camp as they prepare for the U17 FIFA World Cup in October this year.
The Samoa Under-17 women’s team is determined to be one of the best prepared teams from Oceania to ever travel to a FIFA World Cup. The coach and his players have just completed a six-day training camp in California to start an unparalleled build-up programme for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup that will include camps in the United States, New Zealand, Samoa and a trip to the Dallas Cup.
The FIFA U-17 women's world cup has been expanded to 24 teams and Samoa has benefited from Oceania being allocated two slots, after finishing runners-up to OFC champions New Zealand.
The camp also included extensive strength and conditioning testing and one-on-one meetings to create individualised plans for each player to track their progress.
