Leulumoega E.F.K.S. triumphs over Vaimoso
Leulumoega Mafutaga Tina E.F.K.S. triumphed over Vaimoso on Saturday's final game of the first round of the Mafutaga Tina E.F.K.S. netball tournament 10 - 6.
Leulumoega took the lead in the first quarter after shooting six goals. Vaimoso answered by threading four balls through the hoop in the first quarter.
Minutes into the second quarter Leulumoega extended their lead with another four points added to their scoreboard. Vaimoso, by contrast, added two, leaving the score 10 - 6.
But for the mothers participating in the Mafutaga Tina E.F.K.S. tournament, the object of the game was not winning but getting on the court in the name of fitness and fun.
"It's not about winning the game, as you can see around this court, mothers are very happy and are having fun. Some of the mothers here don't work, they just stay home look after the kids, and do chores," Sefulu Salesulu Patu said.
"This is the chance for them to get out and lose some weight and have some fun."
Patu is the brain behind the event, held at the Gym 2 Multipurpose Gym, Tuanaimato on Saturday. She is also the Leulumoega E.F.K.S. church minister's wife.
"Since we are the host of the tournament, we knew we had to win. Vaimoso is a tough opponent and we had to bring our A-Game. We came here last year and competed, and we did really well," Aifai Amiatu told the Samoa Observer.
"This tournament helps a lot in terms of our health, because us (mothers) we have a lot of responsibilities in our homes, it helps keeps us fit. We have to ensure that we stay healthy, another positive impact of this tournament, is that we get to meet other mothers from other denominations and creates fellowship."
Amiatu said that Leulumoega will continue to work on their fitness level for next week's round of competition.
