Samoan bodybuilders on stage with world's best
Samoa's two athletes at the International Bodybuilding Federation World Championships both missed out on top 10 finishes in their categories.
Mr. Samoa and Mr. South Pacific title holder John Lemoa competed on Saturday Samoan time in the men's classic bodybuilding over 180cm category.
Facing off against 14 opponents from around the world, including overall second place winner Benjamin Jewko of Germany, Lemoa failed to advance past the opening round by making the top 10.
Arona Mataia competed later that day in the men's physique up to 179cm category, along with 28 other bodybuilders.
He couldn't make the top 10 either, as overall men's physique winner Liu Mao Yi of China took out the category.
Just attending the championships was a win for Samoa, who provided two of Oceania's three athletes (along with Australian Paul Rix).
It's the first time Samoa sent athletes to the World Championships (which were held in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates) since 2017, the only previous occasion a Samoan competed.
