Manu Samoa coach, Vaeluagaomatagi Steve Jackson, is positive that Sevens hard man, Alamanda Motuga, will make a positive contribution to the Manu Samoa Rugby World Cup squad.

Motuga is en route to Japan to join the Manu Samoa team. The 25-year-old will arrive with the team in Kobe tomorrow, where they are preparing for their second game against Scotland on Monday night.

He is replacing number eight Afaesetiti Amosa, who suffered a ruptured MCL in game one against Russia on Tuesday that ruled him out of the tournament.

“Alamanda was part of our group for the Tonga test in the Pacific Nations Cup, so he understands our game and our team environment. Even though he’s a genuine number seven – he is also very versatile and can cover multiple positions," coach Vaeluaga said.

"He’s a very fit and hardworking player who deserves the opportunity."

Motuga, who is a specialist openside flanker in 15s, earned his single previous Manu cap against Tonga at Apia Park in July.

The 25 year old has been a stand out for Samoa on the World Rugby International Sevens Series, where he has scored 55 tries from 161 matches

The flanker will compete for a spot in the 23 to play Scotland with fellow loose forwards Chris Vui, Jack Lam, TJ Ioane, Josh Tyrell and Piula Fa’asalele, while front rowers Seilala Lam and Logovi’i Mulipola have also provided back row cover at times this year.
