Wesley College's wonder prop Afereti Toai Milo was in tears after he was declared the Most Valuable Player award at the BSP National Schools Rugby XV championship.

The 15-year-old from Satupaitea, Gataivai and Fuailalo was outstanding for the Wesley College U18 tea,

"I started playing rugby when my parents were called to serve in Savaii at Sataua. Now I am playing for Wesley College but I am an active member of the Marist Rugby Club where I am playing in their U20," he said.

"The only person in my family who played this sport was my dad. But he has left us. Despite my father leaving us early, I have taken up his sport to honour him."

His mother stood by his side, teary, remembering how much her son misses his father. His only wish was to have his father watch him play the sport that they both loved.

"I am very happy with our win today. I will keep training, keep learning, and continue to develop my rugby skills as I want to take my rugby career further. This is why I have chosen Marist Rugby Club to help me develop my skills and enhance my experience in rugby."

Afereti has been playing for Marist Rugby Club at the Apia Rugby Union tournament that ended over the weekend. The Marist Rugby Club team and management have congratulated Afereti on his achievements.

"When Afereti Milo joined our Academy in 2024, he was a humble, soft-spoken young man, identifying as a number 8. But our forward coaches saw a different future for him - one in the front row. Since August 2024, he has been training as a prop, and today the results speak for themselves. Afereti's performance is a powerful reminder of what's possible when talent is nurtured with purpose. His story is not only a testament to personal growth but a proud reflection of our Academy's vision and the dedication of our coaching staff. We are beyond proud," said MRC.

"A huge congratulations to Afereti for being the man of the match and his team for winning the U18s final. With so much happening across our club in one day, your success stands tall and makes us all proud. Your Aiga Malisi is right behind you, every step of the way, as you continue to grow and chase your rugby dreams."
