It was an easy win for Moamoa Roosters on Saturday when they claimed the challenge shield from Apia Maroons by 25-10. This is the first time the Roosters have won the shield since being formed in 2019.

Apia Maroons were first on the scoreboard with a successful penalty. Moamoa secured a try with a successful conversion to head into the break leading 10-3.

In the second half, Apia could only secure a try. Moamoa piled on 15 more points to snatch the victory.

Moamoa skipper Elia Tolufale said they came to win.

"When we played the first half, I noticed that our defence was pretty much stretched out, so when we came back in the last half, we knew we had to tighten our defence. Whichever team has the strongest defence will surely win," he said.

"Next week, we will work on our rucks and mauls. Our fitness level is not where it is supposed to be. Even though we won, there is still room for improvement. We will work on all areas to defend the shield again next week."

Tournament Director and secretary for Apia Rugby Union, Fuimaono Taala Laifa said he noticed an improvement in the level of rugby each week.

"The level of rugby has moved up, and every team's preparations have also improved. The fitness level of all teams and the strength shown by individual players is just amazing. Every team has improved their game."

Moataa Whites will have another chance to challenge the shield next week.
