The President of the Samoa Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee Pauga Talalelei Pauga confirmed their endorsement for the newly established Independent Boxing Samoa.

In response to queries by the newspaper, Pauga clarified that the Samoa Boxing Federation is no longer with SASNOC.

"Yes, we accept this new boxing association as part of the provision set up by the International Olympic Committee to coincide with the Olympic Charter specifically for boxing. This is only provisional. The Samoa Boxing Federation under the International Boxing Association is no longer under SASNOC," he said in an email.

In October last year, the Samoa Boxing Federation did not welcome the idea of a new boxing body called Independent Boxing Samoa established in August 2024. They claimed they are the only boxing federation recognised by SASNOC, the government and international bodies.

Independent Boxing Samoa is run by President Tavui Mikaele Lemisio and his executive members. They have already selected their head coach, Steven Faoagali. They have a few boxers who have already signed up with their federation.

In late January, the newly formed World Boxing announced the eight countries from whom they have accepted and approved applications taking its memberships to 68. The eight National Federations were France, Croatia, Poland, Iran, Malaysia, Nepal, Turkmenistan, and Samoa which is represented by Independent Boxing Samoa.

President of Independent Boxing Samoa, Tavui was not available to comment due to work commitments abroad. Attempts by this newspaper to get comments from the President of the Samoa Boxing Federation, Tagaloatele Papalii Poloa were unsuccessful as of press time.

World Boxing is a non-profit international federation set up to administer the sports of Olympic-style boxing, Paralympic boxing (otherwise called "Adaptive boxing") and E-sport boxing.

While SASNOC has endorsed the new body, it is unclear which of the two bodies boxers would be recognised for participation at the Pacific Games, Commonwealth Games and the Olympic Games.
