A first-ever capping ceremony was hosted by Lakapi Samoa on Wednesday night as part of their centennial celebration to honour all the former and current players, administrators, and all those affiliated with rugby.

President for Lakapi Samoa, Namulauulu Sami Leota said the celebration marked 100 years of everyone's dedication and pride for rugby.

"It is with immense pride and gratitude that we gather here for this historical occasion. The first-ever capping ceremony held by Lakapi Samoa to honour not only our Manu Samoa players but also the officials and everyone who has been the guiding force for Samoa rugby led us to where we stand today," he said.

"This capping ceremony is a significant part of Lakapi Samoa's centennial celebration, marking 100 years of dedication, passion and service to our beloved sport. It is a moment to acknowledge and thank all those who have contributed to Samoa rugby over the years.

“To those who have travelled from overseas to be here, we extend a very special thank you. Your presence here adds a deeper meaning to this milestone."

He said this was a testament for their growth, resilience and strength on the global stage. Despite Samoa's small economy, rugby has matured and they have also put Samoa on the map.

“Looking ahead, to the current administration, we continue to cooperate and work together with the Government, World Rugby, player's association so we can serve and carve the pathways that ensures the best outcome for Samoa and its rugby.

“We are committed to building a strong foundation laid by those before us and we are looking forward to create a future where Samoa continues to shine on the world stage."

They also honoured those who weren't able to participate as they had passed away. However, their family members were able to receive their cap with their names and numbers on it along with their Manu Samoa scarf and centennial pin.

The majority of the former players weren't able to attend.
