Samoa Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (S.A.S.N.O.C) farewelled the Samoa Weightlifting team heading to the Commonwealth Championship in Suva, Fiji next week.

President of S.A.S.N.O.C, Luafalealo Pauga Talalelei wished the Samoa Weightlifting well on their journey.

"We understand the upcoming event is not going to be easy. There will be a lot of countries who will be competing in this competition. I want to thank you Tuaopepe the President of the Samoa Weightlifting Federation, for a great effort and all the hard work you've been doing for our weightlifting team," he said.

"You continue to put Samoa on the map. You have achieved so much in competitions that you go to. You left your family so you could train to the best of your abilities so that you can put Samoa on top. We will be rooting for you, so all the best with the Commonwealth."

Australian High Commission's Patrick Dawson said through the PacificAus Sports program they will continue to support Samoa in sports. He also wished the Samoa weightlifting the best as they travel to Fiji.

President and coach Tuaopepe Jerry Wallwork acknowledged their kind contribution and their unwavering support towards the team.

"Unfortunately, it didn't go our way in Paris, but that is sports. We win some, we lose some. But it's how you get back up that matters. The mission now is towards the Commonwealth Games and hoping to place sixth to qualify."

The weightlifting team was joined by the S.A.S.N.O.C executives and members from the Australian High Commission.
