SIGFA "Fish to the Max" Legends tournament underway
The Samoa international Game Fishing Association's Fish to the Max "Legends" tournament is ready to hit the waters Saturday morning and conclude with awards presentation in the evening.
According to SIGFA tournament Director and member of the SIGFA Executive Committee, Greg Hopping the tournament is part of SIGFA's monthly tournaments which has turned into Samoa's Teuila festivities.
"It is one of the S.I.G.F.A "Fish To The Max" monthly tournaments held over the 12 month fishing season from June to May each year," he said in an interview.
"This year it is also being incorporated into Samoa's annual Teuila Festivities. Fifteen boats with teams have registered for the tournament and 60 anglers will be competing for cash and prizes."
The tournament wouldn't have been possible without the support of the sponsors, according to Mr. Hopping and credited the Tanoa, N.B.S and Taula for their support.
He added that the tournament is being held to celebrate the past fishing legends of the club while also acknowledging the first ever female president of the club.
These achievements became milestones for the club, Mr. Hopping added, to be recognized as one of the leading big game and sport fishing clubs in the region.
He said this year the club's first female president Aigaga McNeely will be remembered and she was the President from 2006 to 2007.
"She will be presenting the winners with their prizes and telling our members about her experiences when she was president, as the club grew from just a few members to become one of the leading big game and sport fishing clubs in the South Pacific region," Mr. Hopping said.
He also told the Samoa Observer that the anglers will be weighing their catches from 5.30pm and anyone is welcome to join the celebrations.
There is also a bar at the mariner where the participants and the guests can enjoy themselves during the presentation award ceremony. The Silver Bullet Band will also provide entertainment for the evening.
According to Mr Hopping, the very first SIGFA "International" Tournament was held in August 1995 and made reference to the "Fish to the Max" background.
"The very first Fish To The Max "Legends Tournament" was held in June 2018, the monthly Fish To The Max tournaments are so named in memory of club legend and mighty fisherman Max Rasmussen, whose son is currently the president of the SIGFA, Michael Rasmussen."
