M.O.H. confirms 64 COVID-19 cases

The Ministry of Health (M.O.H.) has confirmed 64 positive COVID-19 cases recorded over the last seven days with 3 new cases detected at the airport last Tuesday.

After a 24-day absence, the Ministry's Weekly Situational Report was circulated again on Thursday morning, giving the latest data on COVID-19 community cases covering the period from 2pm Sunday 14 August to 2pm Sunday 21 August.

The total cumulative number of COVID-19 positive cases (community and border) now stands at 15,767 with 15,598 community cases of which 169 have been detected at the border since March 2020.

According to the M.O.H. currently there are eight (8) cases in managed isolation at the Tupua Tamasese Meaole National Hospital at Moto'otua.

While a total of 169 cases have been recorded at the border since March 2020, the Ministry report said last Tuesday there were 3 new cases detected on the NZ990 flight. To date no cases have been detected at the Matautu wharf.

As for COVID-19 admissions, the M.O.H. said there has been a total of 324 admissions at the hospital at Moto'otua since the first community case was recorded on 17 March 2022 with 287 getting discharged and returning home.

There have been no deaths over the last seven days from COVID-19 with the cumulative total number of fatalities since 17 March 2022 still standing at 29 deaths. 

M.O.H. staff have also administered a total of 187,397 rapid antigen tests (RATs) since last Tuesday 16 August 2022.

The Ministry emphasised at the end of the report that the seven day rolling average report includes trends of positive cases since 17 March 2022 when the country's first community case was confirmed.

The last M.O.H. weekly situational report that was circulated to the media was on 31 July 2022. The Ministry did not indicate whether it will provide the COVID-19 data from Monday 1 August 2022 to Saturday 13 August 2022.
