Two local entrepreneurs claimed that business was good during the festive season and shared how their ventures fared.

The holiday season often brings a surge of activity for businesses across Samoa, and for many, it’s a time of significant growth and opportunity.

Julia Gracita Tautu, a worker of Quality Island Cut, a business established in 2021, reflected on the busy holiday period.

"During the festive season, we had many people coming in for new looks for events like office end-of-year parties, school graduations, proms, weddings, and family celebrations," Julia shared.

The demand for haircuts and styling was so high that employees often worked overtime to accommodate customers.

"Our income increased significantly as new and regular customers visited. Even young women came in for stylish hairdos," she said.

Quality Island Cut’s welcoming customer service has been a cornerstone of its success. "A beautiful smile and love, that’s what keeps our customers coming back," Julia added.

As the business moves into 2025, Julia is optimistic. "We hope to continue growing, improving for the benefit of our customers and employees, and supporting the families of our workers."

Esther Neilson, who manages a market stall with her husband’s family in Malie, also shared her positive experience. The stall sells fruits, vegetables, taro, and other local produce, and it saw steady sales even after the holiday rush.

"We’re still seeing many people coming to buy from our block," Esther said.

On average, the stall earns between $300 to $400 hundred daily, totalling over $1000 weekly.

"It’s very beneficial for our family. We earn daily, unlike office jobs where payments come at the end of the week," she explained.

Their hard work has brought tangible rewards.

"We’ve been able to buy a car, provide food, and purchase clothes for our children. This business has truly been a blessing," Esther said, expressing gratitude for their success and hopes for continued prosperity in 2025.

Both entrepreneurs emphasize the importance of perseverance and community in their work. Whether through a friendly smile or consistent quality, they’ve found ways to thrive and support their families.

As the new year begins, their stories highlight the resilience and dedication of Samoa’s small business owners. With their determination and optimism, they look forward to a brighter future for their businesses and their families.
