Fo'isala leads as vote count for Gagaifomauga No. 2 by-election continues
Independent Candidate, Fo'isala Lilo Tu'u from Lefagaoali'i Savai'i is leading the election race after the preliminary results for the Gagaifomauga No.2. by-election on Friday.
The preliminary count for ten polling booths as of 4 pm on Friday shows that Fo'isala is leading the election race with a total of 413 votes.
However, with a total of 106 votes yet to be counted, it's too close to call as the runner up and Human Rights Protection Party (H.R.P.P.), So'oalo Fineaso Poka is just 50 votes behind, with a total of 363 votes.
The other Independent candidate, Falesaopule Vaialia Iosua polled 274 votes, while the sole candidate from the ruling Fa'atuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (F.A.S.T.) party collected 247 votes.
A total of 106 votes are yet to be counted.
This include the 62 pre-polling votes that were casted on Wednesday and 44 votes collected through the mobile booths both in Upolu and Savai'i.
Of the 2,031 eligible voters registered under the electoral roll for the constituency, only 1,369 voters turned up to have their voices heard on Friday.
During the April election last year, a total of 1,447 people voted from Gagaifomauga No.2. which means that 78 voters did not vote during the by-election today compared to the number of those who voted last year.
This is a developing story
