School start announced

School students will resume the academic year at the end of the month on 31 January, the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture (M.E.S.C.) has confirmed.
The Ministry last week confirmed the date with the release of its 2022 school calendar.
The first academic term for students of the year will last for ten weeks, while teachers will be back at school a fortnight earlier, on 17 January.
Term one will end on 9 April followed by a one week school holiday from 9 to 17 of April.
Public holidays to be observed during the term include Good Friday which falls on 15 April and later Easter Monday on 18 April.
There will also be ten weeks set aside for term two beginning on 18 April and concluding on 24 June.
That will include two weeks of school holidays, running from 25 June to 10 July.
The term will also include Mother’s Day (which falls on 8 May but will be officially observed on Monday 9 May) and Independence Day on 1 June.
The third term’s ten weeks will begin on 11 July and end on 16 September. This follows a two week break from 17 September to 2 October.
The penultimate educational period includes Father’s Day 14 August and the Father’s Day holiday on 15 August.
The last term of the academic year - term four - will start on 3 October and run until 9 December.
It will include the White Sunday holiday on 9 October officially observed the following day on 10 October.
The Ministry of Education also revealed that, after the conclusion of the last term of the year, there will be a seven-week break from 10 December 2022 to 29 January 2023.
The 2023 school year teachers will resume for teachers on 16 of January; students start on 30 January 2023.
According to statistics revealed on the Education Ministry’s official website, the overall total number of students enrolled in Samoa is 64,114.
There are 2,885 teachers across a total of 337 schools including the Early Childhood Education (E.C.E.) sector, Primary Schools and Secondary Schools.
There are approximately 125 E.C.E. schools with 423 teachers to cater to 4,203 students.
These exist alongside 170 primary schools with 1,427 teachers for 43,546 students and 42 secondary schools with 1,035 teachers and 16,365 students.
