Missing persons cases increase 'frightening'
The Ministry of Police, Prisons & Corrections have confirmed there has been an alarming increase in the number of people going missing around the nation recently.
Deputy Commissioner Auapaau Logoitino Filipo described the surging number of missing people as frightening.
“The majority of the victims who’ve been reported to have gone missing are young girls,” he said.
“In the past five weeks or so, there has been a growth in missing persons cases.
But in some recent good news, the Police say they have found Easter Ti’iTi’i 15 years old of Pesega and Vaiusu who was reported missing to the Samoa Police Service on the 12th of October.
Easter has been missing from her home at Pesega since Thursday 7 October 2021 around 7am when she left for school. Faaua was last seen wearing a plain red top with a black ‘ie lavalava and backpack. She was brought in to the Police Station in Apia on Thursday by her mother, who reported the matter to Police.
“We are thankful that the 15 year old from Pesega and Vaiusu has been found and is safely back with her family, but there are still others that haven’t been found yet,” Logoitino stated.
The Samoa Observer contacted the Samoa Police Service for a comment about the sudden spike in missing and disappeared children.
Police said more than five people were reported to have gone missing in the last five months, and that some missing persons cases still remain open and unsolved
The Deputy Commissioner is requesting the people of Samoa’s assistance by providing information to find missing persons.
