Luatuanuu takes shield from Faleapuna

By Vaelei Von Dincklage

Luatuanuu has defied all odds and takes home the shield after defeating the holder of the Shield at the Saoluafata rugby field on Saturday evening, 6 - 3.

Faleapuna had four penalties that were awarded to their team, their first five eight-player, Vaimoli Toniga, was only able to convert one penalty conversion to the post, putting only 3 on their scoreboard.

However, for Luatuanuu, they had two penalties and both conversions were successful from Aleli Malaga, and taking the lead from Faleapuna, 6 - 3.

Throughout the whole game, there were many attempts by Luatuanuu to secure a try for their team unfortunately the defense from Faleapuna was just too strong.

Faleapuna in the last seconds of the match had a scrum five meters from the try line, was not able to secure five points from a try, their forwards were really strong as they were able to push the scrum to Luatuanu'u's side. They were awarded a penalty and they opted to go for the kick.

The kick was unsuccessful by Mr. Toniga of Faleapuna, but that conversion could have made them retained the shield as it would lead to the game being a draw. But the victory was not on their side on Saturday.

Faleapuna was very advantaged with the forwards being heavy and tough during scrums, but Luatuanuu had the advantage as they had speed and fitness.
