Students get another chance

The 11 students of Vaimauga College caught smoking narcotics in a video will be given another chance by the school to learn from their mistakes.

The students were supposed to have been home as a disciplinary measure said principal Faumuina Taefu Tovio Taefu.

Faumuina said these students were suspended earlier to be home-schooled for more than a month and he was shocked to find out that they were doing drugs while wearing the school uniform.

"This is a deliberate move by these students who weren't supposed to be wearing the school uniforms at all," he said.

"These students were given home-schooling because they skipped classes and or did not attend school most days.”

Faumuina said as much as this brings embarrassment and a bad reputation to the school he will still give these students second chances by getting home-schooled.

Faumuina said these students are given their assignments every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

He said in the past there were some home-schooled students who topped their classes.

"It's not like they are left behind, they are given another chance by using another method so that they can do better.

Faumuina said the issue with the video will be dealt with by the police and as for his part as a principal he will still give these students a chance to do better and to learn from their mistakes.

"The parents of these students were also very cooperative in helping to investigate this video and we will continue to work hand in hand to make improvements for their children," he said.
