Human Rights Protection Party candidate Tuisugaletaua Sofara Aveau has dismissed reports that he’s withdrawing his candidacy from the 2021 General Election.

The former Member of Parliament told the Samoa Observer that the reports of him making his exit from running are far from the truth.

“[Sadly] that is the reality of some people these days, but I am running for office and that is my final decision," he told the newspaper.

 “There are people spreading rumors, especially this time near the election, saying that I am sick and not feeling well which is not true, I am more than ready for the upcoming election.

Tuisugaletauā stated he has the full support of his wife and children as well as his village.

The 68-years old is running against the then M.P. Sulamanaia Tauiliili as well as businessman Fuatimau Maumea Leniu, who are all running under the H.R.P.P. banner.

“I had planned to run again because my village told me to and because of them, it gives me more courage to register for the election and I see there’s so much to be done by my village and the constituency as well," he added.

The Vaimauga No.1 constituency consists of Fagalii, Vailele, Vailele-uta, Letogo and Laulii.

Tuisugaletaua was the Minister of Communication and Information Technology between 2011 till 2016 until his seat was taken over by Sulamanaia after the 2016 election. 

He was also the former Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries and Minister of Works and Infrastructure. 

During his time away from politics, he developed his cocoa and banana plantation and formed the Banana Growers Association back in 2018.

Tuisgaletaua is hoping for a final spot in the upcoming general election and promises new developments for his constituency.

“What done is done is all in the past a new era will begin after the election what I’m hoping for is a peaceful election," he said.

Tuisugaletauā is also the founder of the well known band back in the days, Ma’atulua from Fagalii  and holds many positions within his village and the church.

His journey hasn’t be easy without the support of his wife who’s also a musician, Seutatia Solomona and their children.

The O.E.C. has scheduled 26 March as the last day for any candidate to withdraw before the general election next month.

It has also been confirmed the former Chief Justice, Patu Tiavaasu’e Sapolu will not contest in next month's general election.
