The past weeks have been beaming with success for the Sataoa Senior rugby team and now they are the champions of the Siumu Rugby Union Premier Shield 2025, finishing the season undefeated.

The Siumu rugby tournament began at the end of  February and the finale was last Saturday. Due to weather conditions and the traditional rules of the Siumu village, the tournament was put on hold.

The villagers of Sataoa were very excited and proud. As the team returned with the spoils, villages celebrated by dancing and cheering on from the side of the road.

Sataoa coach Onosai George Tofa said recruiting and preparation wasn't easy.

"The focus was on showcasing the player's skills and talents and doing their best was worth it all," he said.

"The players had to sacrifice their time for training and were prepared for each game of the tournament. Since the start of the season the Sataoa rugby team has been undefeated, they won all their matches throughout the whole tournament period.

"In terms of financial support, the  Sataoa Rugby Club covered all expenses. Still, the villagers were able to contribute in terms of the provision of water bottles and ice packages for each match from the beginning to the end of the season."

The Team also wants to acknowledge their families and village for their unending support in every game, not in just Samoa but also overseas their positive energy and cheer throughout the tournament made an impact on the player's performance on the field.

The  Siumu Shield is rotated, but for 2025 Sataoa rugby team is the holder. Their coach has high hopes and stated that this was not the end of their journey. He hopes for the same result in the next season.
