Six Samoans become hall of famers

Six Samoan rugby legends were inducted into the Pasifika Rugby Hall of Fame during a ceremony last weekend at Eden Park, honouring their contributions to the sport and the Pasifika community.
The honorees included Fa’alogo Tana Umaga, La’auli Savae Sir Michael Jones, Fesolai Va’aiga Tuigamala, Masuisuimatamaalii Sua Tauaua-Pauaraisa, Wallace Sititi, and Logo-i-Pulotu Lemapu Atai’i “Sylvia” Brunt.
Fa'alogo, former All Blacks captain and current Moana Pasifika head coach, was recognised for his enduring leadership and commitment to Pasifika representation in rugby. La'auli, a founding figure of the Hall of Fame, was honoured for his pioneering work in the sport and his advocacy for Pacific Island players.
Fesolai, affectionately known as “Inga the Winger,” was remembered as a dual-code international who represented both the All Blacks and Manu Samoa. His family accepted the award on his behalf.
Tauaua-Pauaraisa, a leader in women’s rugby, specifically her captaincy in the Manusina XV, was honoured for her role in expanding opportunities for women across the Pacific. Sititi, a rising rugby star in New Zealand rugby, and Brunt, a standout with the Black Ferns, were recognised for their achievements on the field and their potential to inspire future generations.
The Pasifika Rugby Hall of Fame was founded in 2023 to celebrate the achievements of Pasifika rugby players and their impact on the global game. The Eden Park ceremony marked the Hall’s inaugural induction event.
