The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (L.D.S.) Charities donated kitchen and vocational studies equipment to assist the Loto Taumafai Society National Disability Centre.

Held at the centre’s hall at Vaitele on Monday, LDS Charities representative Elder Scott Cameron said the purpose of donation is to help those in need. 

“It’s about helping the children who are disadvantaged and setting examples of Jesus’s teaching by assisting everyone despite their race, color, and religion," Elder Cameron said. 

“It was through the love of Jesus Christ that people all over the world donated to the humanitarian fund which is where the donation is from.

“We donated kitchen appliances, things they need for their school like a fridge, freezer, stoves, first aid kits, sewing machines, rice cookers, wood working equipment - we love helping people."

Principal of Loto Taumafai, Lagi Natanielu thanked LDS Charities for their generosity and said it was a timely donation given that they the school is need of such materials.

“The donation is mainly for the kitchen facility but there are also sewing machines and other equipment for our vocation unit - there is a great need of materials and tools to teach our kids how to cook," Lagi said. 

“These are children with disabilities in terms of physical, intellectual, and sensory - so a lot of them may not be able to pursue academic studies but they can learn how to prepare a simple meal.

“I know that this is a donation from the church but I thank God for using Sister Pamela and Elder Scott Cameron to be the vessels through which this blessing comes from."

The National Disability Centre is a training center for providing basic education and skill training both children and adults living with disability and was established in 1981.
