A mother’s investment
The greatest investment one can ever make is investing in their own children.
Ask Palepa Tupito and she will be happy to tell you why.
Palepa is a 44-year-old mother from the village of Falease’ela Lefaga.
She does not work in an office, but she sure does work really hard for her family, especially her children.
“In this life, we all work hard to provide for our families,” Palepa told the Village Voice.
“We all have different callings and different jobs but we all work for one purpose, and that is to develop out families and to provide for our children.”
Said Palepa, she works on their plantation six days a week to provide for her family and to assist her children with their needs.
“I have one child who is in school at the moment and our plantation is the main source of income for them.
“To me, I don’t mind working in the rain and sun every day of the week, just as long as I put food on the table for my family and that I send my children to school.”
She went on to say that she truly believes that investing in children is the best investment.
“The future of our families depends heavily on our children.
“If we raise them well, we will definitely enjoy a prosperous future. Children are our gifts from God.
“Our duty as parents is to make sure that they are well-taken care of and that they get the education they need.”
Like any other parent, Palepa’s dream is to see her children succeed in life when they grow up.
“For me, I don’t mind having to work really hard now and dirt my hands every single day, but I want my children to enjoy a better future.
“I always tell them that they should do well in school so they don’t have to live like us.
“I want them to learn from us that hard work is the key to a successful life.”
However, Palepa said her hard work goes together with her ongoing prayers to God to guide and protect her children.
