Unexpected power outage on Monday morning
An unexpected power outage has struck parts of the country, leaving many areas without electricity as the Electrical Power Corporation (EPC) works to restore supply.
On Monday at 11 am, power supply was cut in parts of Samoa as an unexpected outage disrupted electricity supply.
The Electrical Power Corporation (EPC) said the unplanned outage is currently affecting Alaoa South and surrounding areas, with crews already on the ground carrying out restoration work.
The cause for the disruption has not been revealed, but EPC said that efforts were underway to restore supply as quickly as possible.
Areas impacted include Papauta, Vaoala, Tiapapata, Afiamalu, and others.
Previously, the Electrical Power Corporation (EPC) said they were working to restore power after an unplanned outage affected parts of eastern Upolu on Sunday evening, 17 May.
In a statement, the Electrical Power Corporation (EPC) said the outage stretched from Solosolo to Lalomauga due to a fault on its high-voltage (HV) line in Solosolo.
They later reported that a large tree had fallen onto the line, causing damage and isolating several areas while repair works were carried out.
EPC said its technical teams worked through the evening to clear the line and restore supply, and power was progressively reconnected to affected communities after repairs were completed.
