The family of a Samoan man who died in India while on a medical trip is working to arrange the return of his body and his son back to Samoa following his passing.

Saili Sosiua, a man from Satalo Falealii, died on Sunday after undergoing an operation in India. He had travelled there for medical treatment, accompanied by his son, who now remains overseas as the family urgently tries to organise their return home.

Relatives say efforts are underway to secure the necessary arrangements to bring Sosiua’s body back to Samoa, along with his son, who had been assisting him throughout the medical process. The repatriation process is expected to be complex and costly, requiring coordination with authorities and service providers in both countries.

Sosiua’s wife said the loss has been devastating, adding that if she had known the outcome, she would never have allowed her husband to travel for the procedure.

Sosiua is among the Samoan patients who have recently died while receiving treatment abroad. He is one of two Samoans reported to have died in India, while another Samoan patient has died in New Zealand under separate circumstances.

The family continues to seek support and guidance as they navigate the process of bringing both father and son back home.
