AI and digital growth need responsible adoption: CSL
A pioneer of information technology in Samoa, Computer Services Limited (CSL) believes artificial intelligence (AI) tools could support learning, improve efficiency in healthcare, and help businesses streamline operations. But the company stresses the importance of responsible adoption.
As AI continues to grow worldwide, CSL sees opportunities for Samoa in education, healthcare, and business.
CSL Samoa has just undergone a rebranding, signalling a renewed commitment to the country’s digital growth while staying true to its Samoan values of faith, culture, and family.
The company, a long-standing Samoan-owned player in the ICT sector, says the rebranding reflects its role in guiding how emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), are understood and adopted locally.
“Technology, including AI, is not here to replace our values but to support and strengthen them,” said CSL chief executive officer David Main. “Our goal is to make technology practical, accessible, and relevant for our people.”
CSL has witnessed the evolution of technology in Samoa for almost five decades, from early computer systems to internet connectivity, cloud solutions, and now AI. Each stage, the company says, has opened new opportunities for how Samoans live, work, and connect.
“AI should be seen as a tool to support people, not replace them,” Main said. “The impact depends on how it is used. With the right guidance, it can boost productivity, efficiency, and create opportunities, while keeping people at the centre.”
CSL is actively investing in building digital skills across Samoa. Its Digital Training Centre has already seen strong participation, offering programs that teach practical AI skills, including AI prompting and tools like Microsoft Copilot.
Free AI sessions are being held at CSL and are open to the public. The company also plans to expand its training centre to Savai'i in May.
“Our focus is simple,” Main said. “Samoa should not be left behind. We aim to move forward while honouring our values and protecting what matters most to our people.”
