Patients say they are relieved after an out-of-service elevator at the National Hospital in Motootua was fixed, making it easier and safer.

“ I feel happy after the elevator was fixed, making it easier for people to move between floors. Many said the repair has made a big difference, especially for elderly patients, pregnant women, and those who are unwell," said Teleise Mapu, a patient.

“They previously had to use the stairs while the elevator was broken, which was difficult and tiring. I had to climb the stairs before, and it was really hard. Now it’s much better.”

"It has improved safety and comfort when visiting the hospital. My pregnant sister needed the elevator, so this is really good news," said Fa’afete Sio.

"There are some parts of the hospital that still need attention, such as broken ceilings and the ventilation system. It has made hospital visits less stressful and more convenient."

Patients echoed similar sentiments, noting that the repaired elevator has reduced the strain of navigating the hospital and made visits easier compared to when they were forced to use the stairs during the outage.

While the restored elevator has been widely welcomed, patients say attention is still needed for other parts of the hospital infrastructure.
