Power restoration efforts continue overnight
Electricity in parts of Samoa affected by outages since Monday evening was being gradually restored, the Electric Power Corporation (EPC) said.
Work progressed Monday night after multiple areas lost power, and continued into Tuesday morning.
“Work carried out by our team began last night and has continued through to this morning, as efforts are ongoing to restore and distribute electricity,” said EPC in a statement.
By Tuesday, electricity had been restored to much of the Palisi Feeder, including Aleisa, Tapatapao, Tanumapua, Tuanaimato, Tuaefu Ululoloa, Seesee, parts of Alafua, Sinamoga, Alamagoto, Moamoa, Aai o Niue, and Vaimea.
EPC said ongoing work is still underway on the East Coast Feeder, with some areas remaining without power.
Teams were locating the exact fault in an underground cable, and efforts to restore the supply are continuing.
On Monday, an unexpected power outage struck around 4 pm, disrupting evening routines and essential activities.
The blackout affected several villages just as families were returning home from work and school. With no prior warning, many were caught unprepared as homes, shops and roadside businesses suddenly lost electricity.
Electric Power Corporation, in its public notice, said the interruption was caused by a fault at our power station in Tanugamanono.
The affected feeders were Hospital Feeder, Alaoa South Feeder, Beach Road Feeder, East Coast Feeder, Lalomauga Feeder, Taelefaga Feeder, South Coast Feeder, Sauniatu Feeder, and Fagaloa Feeder.
