BSP sponsors Samoan language week
The Bank of Samoa (BSP) is supporting Samoan Language Week with a total sponsorship of $10,000, including $7,000 in cash and $3,000 in merchandise for activities and competitions.
The program, organised by the Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC), will run for one week and officially launch on 16 March. Schools, educators, and communities across Samoa will join in educational and cultural activities to celebrate and promote the Samoan language.
Tunumafono Jennifer Ula-Fruean, BSP Country Head, said the bank is proud to continue its partnership with the ministry.
“The Samoan language is at the heart of our culture, traditions, and identity. We believe it is important to support initiatives that preserve and promote our language, particularly among younger generations,” she said.
The partnership, now in its second year, will continue through 2026 and 2027, solidifying BSP’s commitment to promoting the Samoan language and cultural heritage.
Sala Delphina Lee, Acting Chief Executive Officer of MEC, thanked BSP for its support and said the bank’s contribution is key to the program’s success.
Through the sponsorship, BSP continues to support national efforts to strengthen cultural identity and encourage the use of the Samoan language across Samoa.
